The Evening Wind-Down: Skincare for Better Sleep
The hour before bed determines the quality of your sleep — and the quality of your skin the next morning. Here’s the ritual.
8 PM: Double Cleanse
Remove the day. Oil cleanser first to dissolve sunscreen and makeup. Gentle cream cleanser second. The act of washing your face signals to your brain that the working day is over.
8:15 PM: Treatment and Massage
Apply your retinol or treatment serum, then spend two minutes massaging your face. Use upward motions. This drains lymphatic fluid (reducing morning puffiness) and relaxes facial muscles you’ve been tensing all day.
9 PM: No Screens
Blue light suppresses melatonin, and melatonin is essential for skin repair. Read a book. Take a bath. Do anything that doesn’t involve a screen. Your skin heals while you sleep — give it the best possible conditions.
